Download VcardKirk J. Retz is the founder of the firm and practices in the area of construction law, handling both transactional and litigation matters. He advises clients on an array of issues as they relate to construction including land acquisition, contract creation and negotiation, the permit process, liens and governmental work. His clients range from Fortune 500-sized companies to small contractors and owners.
Mr. Retz has published articles such as "Construction Basics" which was presented at the West Coast Casualty Construction Defect Seminar and Continuing Education of the Bar; "A Game Plan for Surviving Construction Defect Litigation" as published in Utility Contractor Magazine and "The SB800 Quagmire" in ECA Magazine. He is also a frequent speaker on construction and mold issues including the RE/MAX International Summer Conference for Brokers/Owners & Managers.
His understanding of construction comes not only from his legal training but also from his ten years experience in the construction industry. He supervised and managed construction crews, negotiated contracts and was responsible for the coordination, scheduling and completion of construction projects. He oversaw core and shell and tenant improvement construction for numerous buildings throughout Southern California. Mr. Retz also holds certificates as a Building Systems Technician and Building Systems Administrator.
In addition to his law practice, Mr. Retz volunteers his time with the community. He is on the board of directors for the Rotary club (www.rotary.org) the Gift Planning Council for Loyola Marymount (www.lmu.edu) and the nonprofit organization Trash for Teaching (www.trashforteaching.com). He is also the president of his homeowner's association.
